Want to make your child apathetic about their faith? Read on.

Sep 23 2010

Scott is blunt, but what he says is true.  If you want to make your child apathetic about their faith, follow these instructions.

A number of friends that I know were involved in sports growing up, myself included, never went on to play sports further beyond college, if they ever did sports in college at all.

What’s more important?  Sports or your relationship with God?

rainy day…

Sep 11 2010

It’s a nice rainy day…  went to Starbucks to focus on getting a budget done.  Then working on a car.  Haley is up visiting Becky Kaiser.  Gotta love easy going days…

Fading distant lights…

Like the story that we wish was never ending…
We know sometime we must reach the final page…

Still we carry on just pretending…
That there’ll always be one more day to go…

Called into service…

Sep 08 2010

1 Kings 19
The Call of Elisha
19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother good-by,” he said, “and then I will come with you.”  ”Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?”
21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant.
Last night will be a night that I will remember for the rest of my life.  I was called into service to be the middle school youth pastor.  This set of verses were shared by Matt prior to explaining to the students what would be happening this school year.
I was happy to see that the students were receptive to the idea – they didn’t complain or have concerns about it.  It was a blessing to see them being positive about the idea.

Start of the Youth Group school year…

Sep 07 2010

I’m very excited to see what God will bring for the youth group this school year, both JAM and the Underground.

There will be familiar faces as well as new faces.  If you could, please pray for the students in both groups this year.

This year I am looking forward to students solidify the basics of their beliefs and as the year progresses, connect more with Jesus so in turn, they can be an example of Jesus to others.

Sept 14th…

Sep 02 2010

Legendary Edition

Legendary Edition

Can hardly wait for Sept 14th.  That is the day Halo Reach is released to the masses.  Yes, I have my Halo Reach Legendary Edition reserved and ready for pick up at 12:01 am.  I ordered it through Game Stop who has said they will include a code for an amour permutation that is exclusive to Game Stop.

I am also going to take the time to play the original Halo game, as there may be some additional “flair” that is offered to people who play the original Halo game (on the PC, not XBOX).

emptiness….

how long will you let yourself run on empty before you give up?

how many things will you try?

how many things will you yearn to experience?

before you realize?

Marks of a true disciple

Aug 15 2010

A full blown commitment is required to be a disciple. What does the Word of God teach?

A true disciple loves Jesus above all else. (Luke 14:26). Decisions you make for Christ may not be popular with your family and friends.

A true disciple lives like a dead man. (Luke 14:27). It does not mean pains or trials. It means living like you have died to your old self.

A true disciple considers the value of a strong finish. (Luke 14:28-30). The value of finishing well as a disciple. Don’t be a spiritual dropout. Examples of dropouts – Noah and Solomon.

A true disciple surrenders to a stronger king. (Luke 14:31). We are one king. God is the other. In the past kings who surrendered to other kings would become slaves. Are you willing to be a slave to Christ?

A true disciple stays pure to preserve goodness. (Luke 14:34-35). Salt was used as a preservative in the day of Jesus. We must learn to stand up and speak.

This is challenging for me. I look at this set of passages and I realize I am further away from being a disciple of Jesus than I thought I was.

God, over the next year guide me to become more of a devoted follower of Christ.

back to the routine…

Jul 19 2010

Finally able to settle back into a routine.  Haley is back from her nannying trip – and is now at work.  Some youth students are away at Silver Birch Ranch this week with our youth pastor Matt Myers.  They will be joining up with Jon Duey and Jason Chenoweth.  Looking forward to see what God will do this week up there.

On a personal note – I’m swamped with things to do.  This passage in the Bible was given to me…“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10  Perfect words of encouragement for me.

Have a great week!

You still don’t get it, do you?

Jun 30 2010

This isn’t about you. It’s not about me.

You have a talent…

…but,

it comes with sacrifice.

Believe me.

And it’s time for you to realize…

that the talent,

it doesn’t belong to just you anymore.
